General Description : The Human Resource Manager will plan, implement, direct and maintain UCA’s personnel services; serving as a resource, and maintaining staffing to ensure that personnel functions conform to state and federal requirements. The Director of Human Resources provides leadership to the Administrative Team and is a member of the Executive Leadership Team. They play a leading role in the governance of the school, attending regular Board meetings and works closely with the Superintendent of Schools and the Board of Trustees. UCA recognizes administration as integral part of the 5-fold ministry given to the church in Ephesians 4:11-13. As such, UCA administrators serve as ministers to help advance the mission and vision of United Christian Academy.

 

Reports To : The Director of Finance

 

Qualifications :

  • Born-again Christian.
  • Credible Christian role model whose godly lifestyle and character demonstrates obedience to God and the Holy Bible.
  • Demonstrates a lifestyle on and off campus consistent with Christian values in all areas. A Christian lifestyle should reflect the biblical perspective of integrity and appropriate personal and family relationships, business conduct and moral behavior.
  • Displays spiritual maturity, academic ability, and personal leadership qualities to “train up a child in the way he should go” (Proverbs 22:6) and promote the spiritual development of a child through Scripture study and memorization, prayer, witnessing, and unity in the Body of Christ.
  • Possess strong Biblical knowledge, able to apply biblical principles to school instruction and administration.
  • Support and comply with the school’s Statement of Faith and Christian Conduct.
  • Understanding and commitment to UC Academy’s educational objectives and philosophy of education.
  • Member of an evangelical, Bible-believing church.
  • Bachelor’s degree and three years of progressively responsible professional human resources management experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Master’s Degree in related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in oral and written communication.
  • Collaborative decision-making style, with a proven track record of working effectively with diverse stakeholders to meet goals and drive results.
  • Strong reasoning; exhibit sound and accurate judgment.
  • Understand organizational strengths and weaknesses and develop strategies to achieve organizational goals.
  • Create an environment that is predictable, supportive and affirms the dignity of every stakeholder and employee.
  • Ability to work independently with strong organization and time management skills.

  • Well-developed human relations skills sufficient to carry out negotiations, make formal presentations, conduct performance reviews, and communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Read, understand and accurately interpret and develop methods and procedures for implementation of codes, laws, rules, regulations and other policies and procedures relating to the area of responsibility.
  • Supervise, train, evaluate and motivate staff in a way that optimizes service.
  • Demonstrates strong working knowledge of employment laws and regulations (E.g. Ministerial Exemption, FLSA, FMLA, ADA, ADEA).
  • Microsoft Windows & Office Suite
  • Computer – HRIS software (BambooHR), database software, and spreadsheet software
  • First Aid/CPR Certification.
  • TB clearance with the last four years.
  • Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance. Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986: An Eligibility Verification Form (I-9) will be required along with the supporting documents listed on the I-9 form.

Human Resource Functions

  • Advises the Superintendent on a variety of employment topics/concerns for the purpose of ensuring he/she is current on relevant concerns.
  • Acts as advisor to administrators, managers and supervisors on issues related to employee discipline and employment for the purpose of ensuring consistent application of policy.
  • Directs recruitment functions (E.g. job descriptions, job postings, career fairs, interview scheduling, onboarding), ensuring that selection procedures comply with applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Assists supervisors in hiring process for the purpose of ensuring positions are filled by the individual that best meets the needs of UCA.
  • Collaborates with school principals, the office manager and other key leaders to implement an effective orientation program for new faculty and staff.
  • Administers a wide variety of personnel policies and programs (E.g. orientation, contracts, compensation, etc) for the purpose of conforming to school policies, relevant laws, contracts and agreements.
  • Participated in establishing, and implements annual departmental goals, objectives, and priorities.
  • Audit departments for the purpose of ensuring human resource practices are implemented as directed by UCA procedures policies and/or state/federal regulation.
  • Directs certification processes for the purpose of ensuring certificated staff are properly certified per ACSI and/or state requirements.
  • Develop, plan and evaluate HR procedures and policies for the purpose of ensuring departments are operating effectively and efficiently.
  • Responsible for the production and revision of the UCA Employee Handbook.
  • Monitors all employee appraisal processes and teachers on plan for improvement (PIP), ensuring highly qualified staff are retained by UCA in compliance with regulation and policy.
  • Directs annual production, distribution and payment set-up of wage documents (E.g. contracts, wage notices, work agreements) for the purpose of ensuring employees are paid per the wage document.
  • Directs compensation and benefit programs for UCA (classification of jobs, payment of wage, health insurance, open enrollment, worker’s compensation) for the purpose of ensuring UCA is in compliance with applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Directs employee background and fingerprint process to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Directs employee insurance programs (E.g. medical, dental, vision, voluntary short/long term disability, 403b) to ensure open enrollment, billing and claims, COBRA conversions are processed in a timely manner.

 

Risk Management

1. Oversee the risk management program, including insurance plans, workers compensation administration and claims.

2. Collaborates with the Director of Safety to ensure safety plan is comprehensive in scope and detailed in execution

3. Manages and maintains UCA’s IIPP, which includes the Work Place Violence Prevention plan.

4. Manages employee health/accommodation requests for the purpose of ensuring a healthy work force is available to UCA.

 

Employee Investigations/Grievance

1. Investigates grievances and/or complaints from employees (E.g. sexual harassment, pay and/or assignment disputes, etc.)

 


Substitute Teachers

1. Recruits, selects and orientates substitute teachers.

2. Coaches and disciplines substitute teachers with the support of School Principals.

3. Communicates job expectations, monitors, appraises and reviews job contributions with the School Principals

4. Enforces policies and procedures.

 

Teacher Mentoring Program

1. Collaborates with school principals for the purpose of ensuring newly hired Administrators and Teachers receive support and orientation to the UCA culture, practices and policies.

FLSA Status: Exempt

 

Work Schedule & Pay Scale:

Full-Time: Academic school year plus 25 days.

 

Full-time equivalency: 1.0

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position supervises 2-4 employees and is responsible for the human resource management of the school. This person deals with highly confidential matters.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work environment includes indoor and outdoor environments and office and classroom settings. Floating desk assignment and/or shared office space may be required; moderate noise levels commensurate to a classroom environment.
